Yahoo Joins Group Of Tech Firms That Reveal Workforce Demographic Numbers

Yahoo has joined Google and a small number of other tech firms in divulging demographic information about its workforce. In a global overview, Yahoo said 37 percent of its 12,000 workers around the world are women, and just 23 percent of senior managers are female. For the U.S. workforce, Yahoo reported that 50 percent of its employees are white, 39 percent Asian, four percent Hispanic, four percent undisclosed or multiple races, and just two percent black. Looking just at tech workers, Asian employees represent the majority at 57 percent, with 35 percent white workers – though bosses were still overwhelmingly white. Yahoo’s disclosures come on the heels of Google’s admission that its workers are predominately white and male. Unlike Google, however, Yahoo offered no explanations, excuses, or promises to improve.
