Trump Diversity Training Order Roils HR Depts, Triggers Lawsuit

An executive order prohibiting “divisive concepts” in diversity training has caused confusion and discord in HR and legal departments, and in some organizations, engendered some uncomfortable and public internal conflicts. The order applies to federal agencies, U.S. uniformed services and recipients of federal grants, but the order “has also cast a chilling effect on diversity training at some companies,” according to an article in HR Dive. Meanwhile the Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) of the NAACP has filed a lawsuit seeking to have the order rescinded, although an official with the LDF has said he hopes the Biden administration will repeal it – something deemed likely in a recent Littler report on how the 2020 presidential election will reshape workplace policy.
