Truck Driver Alleges She Was Blocked From Leaving Union, Sues For Coercion

A Michigan truck driver is suing the United Auto Workers for coercion, alleging that the union blocked her from quitting and stopping her dues payments. Michigan is a “right-to-work” state, meaning workers cannot be forced to join a union or pay dues. The plaintiff, a CEVA Logistics U.S., Inc. driver, sent a letter to her local UAW chapter, who responded that she would have to come to union hall and provide identification to quit. The driver filed charges this week at the Detroit office of the NLRB.
