Thousands of Cybersecurity Jobs Left Unfilled

Analysts say that somewhere between 100,000 and 350,000 vacant cybersecurity positions are waiting for qualified candidates. The exponential growth of global hacking has caused a skyrocketing demand for the positions, which start at around $80,000 per year for entry-level positions. Academia is taking much of the blame for failing to train large numbers of students with targeted skills, though some say industry and government officials did not make their needs clear. Several vocational schools are being established to meet the shortfall , the Los Angeles Times reports. The Commission on Enhancing Cybersecurity wrote in December that, “the president should … train 100,000 new cybersecurity practitioners by 2020.”
