Starbucks Leads Effort to Employ Young Americans

Starbucks, along with Wal-Mart, Microsoft and other companies, announced a “100,000 opportunities initiative.” They pledge to employ young Americans from 16 to 18 years old “who face systemic barriers to jobs and education” by 2018. An August job fair in Chicago will kick off the effort. The Aspen Institute will administer the program, which is funded in part through the MacArthur Foundation. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz’s foundation is also contributing $30 million.
