Sony Employees File Class Action After Hack

Sony, still reeling from a massive data hack, must now contend with a class action filed by two former employees who claim the company did not properly secure sensitive employee data. Sony’s breach, which the plaintiffs call an “epic nightmare,” exposed unencrypted Social Security numbers, birth dates and some medical information about employees. The suit also claims the company did not adequately notify former employees about being at risk after the breach occurred. Working in the plaintiff’s favor is the fact that Sony has been hacked before, including through a major breach of its PlayStation system in 2011 that exposed the information of 75 million customers.
