Retailers Advised To Crack Down On Vendor Cybersecurity For Holidays

Data breaches at big retailers are now an old story, and in some cases indirect attack through a clueless vendor is part of the plot line. A post from Perkins Coie lays out a systematic approach to addressing this issue, by way of seven preventive steps retailers can take vis a vis their vendors. It’s a big and an expensive task, given that a large retailer may have thousands of vendor relationships. It’s expensive for the vendor, as well, and there may be some push back. One recommendation is to use incentives, such as extended contracts or faster payment, in order to sweeten the deal.
