Resource Alignment Is A Big Law Department Challenge

A survey found that legal departments, despite increased demand for their services, managed to keep their spending flat last year. How they managed to do that breaks down to two broad strategies: Pressuring outside firms to keep costs down and doing their own inside work more efficiently. Overall they are trying to keep more work in-house, and to allocate resources in a more cost effective and efficient manner by way of  “resource optimization.” One example: figuring out how to keep highly paid lawyers concentrated on high-value work, as opposed to administrative tasks or the kind of legal work that a less seasoned practitioner could handle.
