Poll: Americans Want Overtime For Virtually All

Four out of every five Americans said they would support giving overtime pay to people who make far more than $23,000 annually, according to a poll by Public Policy Polling. A majority of those surveyed, 65 percent, said that overtime should be paid to workers earning up to $75,000. Currently, about 11 percent of salaried workers qualify for overtime; if the poll respondents’ preferences were made into reality, 84 percent of the workforce that earns less than $75,000 would be eligible for overtime, Fortune reports. In March 2014 President Barack Obama directed the Labor Department to rewrite overtime rules.
