OSHA Will Target Exits

A recent enforcement memorandum from OSHA points to greater scrutiny of workplace exits, including whether they are unlocked, clearly marked and unobstructed. Even before this memorandum, “means-of-egress” violations were one of the five most frequently cited in the retail and hospitality industries. Fines for a violation are usually $2000 or less, but the way OSHA now does its calculations means that companies with multiple sites could find themselves paying $70,000 or more.
