Intel Spars With McAfee Over Use Of His Name

John McAfee and the Intel corporation are in court in the Southern District of New York in a dispute over the use of McAfee’s name by a new company that McAfee has become involved in. Intel says that, through its acquisition of McAfee Inc in 2011, it owns a number of registered trademarks, such as MCAFEE and MCAFEE SECURITY, and a stylized “M” on a shield. Now John McAfee has teamed up with MGT Capital Investments, and MGT has announced it intends to change its name to “John McAfee Global Technologies, Inc.” Intel says it has no objection to McAfee using his name in connection with any business, but that using it in this way could confuse customers and violates its trademark rights.
