Hijacked Law Firm Data For Sale: $3500

According to a cybersecurity expert who specializes in the dark web, the entire data network of certain victimized law firms is for sale, and the offer is posted on international internet forums. In the example provided by Eli Dominitz, CEO of security firm Q6, the price was $3,500 for all the data from one New York firm, and the posting included an offer to provide a screenshot that would assure the potential buyer that the seller had broken in and really had the information. According to Dominitz, one thing sophisticated criminals are interested in is information about pending transactions between publicly traded companies, so they can “trade around that and manipulate stocks and make a lot of money.” Criminals working on the dark web are becoming more brazen about advertising their wares, according to another security expert, currently a supervisory special agent with the Secret Service. “You want everybody who potentially wants to buy it to access you, and not to go through a bunch of different steps in order to even find you,” he says.
