Hague Seeks Max Sentence For Cyberbully
February 13, 2017
Dutch prosecutors are seeking the maximum possible sentence – up to 11 years – for a man charged with cyberbullying dozens of young girls and gay men. He faces more than 70 charges linked to the alleged abuse of 34 young girls and five gay men. The suspect, identified only as Aydin C., is also wanted in Canada for his alleged involvement in a high-profile online abuse case in which the victim, a 15-year-old girl, eventually took her own life. C. would pose as a woman or boy, befriend his victims, and then encourage them to strip in front of webcams. Then C. would use the images to blackmail them, threatening to post them widely on the internet unless they performed more sex acts in front of their webcams. The prosecutors stressed that C. put some of his victims through years of emotional abuse. “To do justice in any way to the gravity of the facts, and the refined way in which the suspect systematically put his own interests far above those of his victims, the prosecution believes that there is no room to impose anything other than the maximum sentence,” attorney Annet Kramer told judges in Amsterdam.
