Shutdown Is Evidence Of Waning Business Influence On Republicans

The current stalemate and government shutdown is the latest manifestation of the waning influence of major business and financial interests in the Republican party. Conservative activists, catering to constituents in what are in many cases safe conservative districts, are increasingly calling the shots. Money itself may have become less of a factor in this realignment of power, as the importance of primaries relative to general elections has increased.
