Google Warns “RAT” Customers: The FBI Wants Your Data

Google has told “at least dozens” of its customers that they are the target of an FBI investigation and the agency wants to see their data, according to a story in Motherboard. The FBI apparently suspects these people might have made an online purchase of a software called LuminosityLink, a $40 remote access tool (aka RAT) that is said to allow a user to hack and remotely control another computer. According to a number of people who said they received the Google message, it informed the recipients that Google has “received and responded to legal process issue by Federal Bureau of Investigation (Eastern District of Kentucky) compelling the release of information related to your Google account.”
