Get Ready For The Robo-Interview

Actually, it’s already here. One company that offers the software says it will conduct 2.5 million interviews this year, and most of them will be “on demand,” meaning no live interviewer. Sometimes the question just pops up on the screen, and sometimes there is a practice question so the candidate can get used to talking to no person. The subject speaks into his/her laptop, and there may be the opportunity to re-record an answer. Some big companies are using the process, including Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase and major U.S. airlines. One result: They are saving thousands in recruiter travel expenses. An advantage for subjects is they can do the interview on their own schedule, and so too can the company, for its part, have a look at the result. For many companies the webcam interview is only for the first cut, and for those candidates who make it, a one-on-one in-person interview will follow.
