The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, specifically the so-called “right to be forgotten,” means that many companies will need to either delete or anonymize vast amounts of data. The first steps in the process are the same either way: Understand what data you have and where it is located. Companies that create a good data map – and keep it current – will find it has numerous uses in addition to GDPR compliance.
