Firms Offer Salary Bump, Expanded Benefits To Lure Associates

This summer saw a rash of BigLaw firms bump the salaries of lower-level attorneys, but they’ve also added generous benefits to lure young lawyers. Some packages include flexible schedules, child care and elderly care assistance, student loan assistance program, paid parental leave, private banking, subsidized gym membership, and career and family coaching services. “[T]he war for talent is intensifying,” said Siobhan A. Handley, chief talent officer for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, noting that declining law school enrollment and low LSAT scores mean the top-tier talent pool is shrinking. White & Case LLP has instituted an adoption assistance program that allows employees to set aside pretax dollars to help offset adoption expenses.
