Employers Restrict Benefits For Unwed Same-Sex Couples

With gay marriage gaining ground andnow legal in 37 states and the District of Columbia, some employers are cutting benefits for same-sex couples who don’t legally wed. “The main idea is to make things fair for everyone,” a Verizon Communications Inc. spokesman told the Wall Street Journal. “Currently, if you’re a guy living with a longtime girlfriend or vice versa, you don’t have the ability to get health insurance for your partner.”
