Employers Confront Tangle Of Federal, State, Local Regs

The world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management has released the results of its sixth annual employer survey, which tapped more than 1,200 in-house counsel, human resources professionals, and C-suite executives. Regarding one major item of interest – healthcare – there was a lot of uncertainty, which likely has been exacerbated by events since the survey was taken, with no clear resolution in sight. Still, only four percent of respondents said they anticipate dropping coverage for any full-time employees if the ACA employer mandate is revoked, while 18 percent said they would allow additional employees to work more than 30 hours a week. Hiring practices, including pre-employment screening by way of background and credit checks, is the area where the most respondents expect an increase in EEOC discrimination claims in coming years, followed closely by gender-related claims and equal pay claims. Family and medical leave requirements were also identified as a significant challenge.
