Employee Handbook Violates Workers Rights

An NLRB judge held that a California Casino interfered with workers’ labor law rights by issuing a handbook with a provision prohibiting them from conducting “personal business” while they were at work. According to the decision, the National Labor Relations Act gives employees the right to discuss unions and engage in other protected activity during their non-work time, and the casino’s rule was over-broad and unlawful. The casino is on tribal land, but the NLRB earlier asserted its authority to rule on matters that take place there.
