DNC Hack Impacts C-Suite Execs, Celebrity Donors

The ripple effect of a massive hack into the Democratic National Committee’s computer system is spreading, with The Hill reporting that C-suite executives and major party donors have had sensitive information exposed. Personal details – Including name, address, email address, phone number, and other information – were exposed concerning Gregor “Gore” Verbinski, Elon Musk of SpaceX and Tesla, CEOs of Qualcomm, the Starz Network, Disney, and Fox Film, and top executives at Google, Fox, ABC, and Warner Brothers, as well as 359 celebrities. The DNC has announced it is working to shore up its network defenses following the hack, which interim chairwoman Donna Brazile called an “illegal cyberattack by state-sponsored Russian hackers.” The DNC is forming a new advisory board, consisting of Rand Beers, a former acting secretary of the Dept. of Homeland Security; Nicole Wong, former technology lawyer for Google and Twitter; Aneesh Chopra, first CTO of the U.S.; and Michael Sussman, who works in Perkins Coie’s privacy and security practice.
