Data Breach Security Company Settles With FTC

Lifelock, marketer of theft protection and data breach alert services, has reached tentative agreements with the FTC and plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit. Both settlements regarded related allegations of information security shortcomings, and both are subject to review before being finalized. Last July, the FTC claimed LifeLock violated a 2010 settlement by continuing to make deceptive claims about its identity theft protection services and by failing to take steps to protect users’ data. That settlement required LifeLock to take stringent measures to safeguard the personal information it collects from customers, required $12 million in consumer refunds and barred further deceptive claims about its services.
