Creepy “Jigsaw” Ransomware Works Slow, Ups The Ante

More reason to avoid downloading attachments you’re not very very sure about. Named after the character in the “Saw” movie series, Jigsaw ransomeware operates by demanding payment to unencrypt your files, per usual, but then it starts deleting them, and deletes another batch each hour until you pay up. The good news about this program, explains Mary-Ann Russon, is that security experts have figured out how to deencrypt affected files without paying, but the big picture is that ransomeware is getting so “meticulously coded” that it’s harder to work around it.
