California Mandates Paid Sick Leave

Employers in California will be required to provide paid sick leave under a bill signed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) this week. The bill requires that workers receive up to three days of annual paid sick leave, to accrue at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked. The new law is set to take effect in July 2015, and it will make California the second state in the U.S., after Connecticut, to require paid time off for ill employees.
