Big Shift In Labor Market Predicted Under ACA

Under the Affordable Care Act, starting next year many part-time workers will qualify for a subsidy to their privately-obtained health insurance. Writing in the New York Times, a University of Chicago economics professor marshals the numbers to demonstrate that often these workers will do as well economically as a full-time worker and, because of the federal subsidy, with no more cost to the employer. The effect will be the removal of two disincentives to working part-time and a significant shift in the labor market.
