While the FBI investigated and President Obama pressured the studio to go forward with the release of its controversial film, “The Interview,” regular workers for Sony Entertainment weren’t sure if they were getting paid, or if their identities were safe, or when the fundamental systems they needed to do their jobs would ever be back to normal. Slate’s Amanda Hess paints a picture of what it was like to be a Sony employee a year ago, when the company was hacked and underwent weeks of threats. “It was an Earth-shattering change,” one ex-employee said. Another said, “It was like a bomb went off.” A civil lawsuit filed against Sony in December of last year began: “An epic nightmare, much better suited to a cinematic thriller than to real life, is unfolding in slow motion for Sony’s current and former employees.
