In Many States, Minimum Wage Is Going Up

The highest is in the District of Columbia ($13.25 per hour), followed by Massachusetts and Washington at $12 per hour. A total of 22 states in addition to Washington D.C. either have raised or are slated to raise their minimum this year. New York has the most complex requirements, with variation by region and with strictures that apply to certain industries, including airports. The states with the lowest minimum wage rates are Georgia and Wyoming, at $5.15 an hour, but most employers in these states would be subject to the federal minimum of $7.25.
