Take Me Out To…“Guaranteed Rate Field”?

Not long ago it became U.S. Cellular Field (earning “the adorable nickname of ‘The Cell,’” according to this post from MediaMiser.) For decades before that it had been Comiskey Park. But for the next 13 years it’s going to be “Guaranteed Rate Field,” surely one of the most unusual of the corporate-sponsored ball field names that are now, well, par for the course. A survey by MediaMiser, a media monitoring and analysis software company, finds that reportage on the new name has been running the gamut from the ironic to the scathing, with a few staid exceptions that manage to stay level by including comment from the deal makers themselves – the ball team and the sponsor, a mortgage company based in Chicago.
