Surveillance Court Okayed All 1,856 DOJ Requests in 2012

In 2012, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court OKed all government requests for warrants to conduct surveillance for foreign intelligence purposes. U.S. privacy advocates have expressed concern that the law could be used to justify extensive surveillance of U.S. citizens, as well as foreign nationals. The law has also raised alarms among some European authorities, including the authors of a 2012 study from the European Parliament. There has been particular concern about data belonging to European individuals and business and hosted with U.S. cloud providers.
