Super Bowl Costs Employers $1.3 Billion

The Super Bowl is a great time for employee chat by the water cooler, but now that the confetti is cleared employers will be fielding the effects of $1.3 billion in wasted work, according to estimates from consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Time spent chatting about the game, forming office pools and planning parties on company time add up. Using average wage figures, the firm estimates that U.S. employers lost $257 million for every 10 minutes employees were distracted by the big game.
