17 New Employment Laws In California

During the recently concluded session of the state legislature, more employment laws were passed than in any recent year. They continue a trend that has been consistent in the state for a number of years, expanding employee rights and adding to the burden of employers, according to Paul Hastings attorneys Stephen L. Berry and Lisa M. Fike. Among them are laws expanding retaliation protection for whistleblowers, raising the minimum wage, providing  protection for undocumented workers and mandating work leave for crime victims. Most go into effect in January.
