A third of discrimination charges filed with the EEOC still pertain to race, and they often concern a nasty situation that began with “mini-conflicts” that weren’t addressed. Layoffs can be a trigger, and social media is a new platform for it to manifest itself. Company policies need to be thoughtfully crafted and kept up to date. Why “zero tolerance” doesn’t work.
