Hackers are side-stepping increasing bank security systems by hacking mobile payment app and gift cards. Starbucks mobile payment system has been one target. Draining the card of its value, then using Starbucks’ auto-reload function allows the hackers a back-door entry to users’ debit and credit cards, says NBC News The scheme is part of a trend, in which hackers target third-party systems, avoiding the more sophisticated systems protecting financial institutions.
