Yoplait 1, Chobani 0 In False Ad Tiff

A federal judge in the Northern District of New York has ordered Chobani to stop running ads that claim General Mills’ Yoplait Greek yogurt contains an ingredient used to “kill bugs.” The ingredient is potassium sorbate, widely used as a preservative in food products but also used as a preservative in some pesticides. The judge’s order said the chemical has been  generally recognized as safe by the FDA, and that Chobani is free to tout its natural ingredients but not “to disseminate the false message that potassium sorbate renders Yoplait Greek 100 unsafe to consume.”
