Worker Abuse, Deep In Supply Chain, Is Major Company Risk

A report issued last week by risk advisory firm Verisk Maplecroft says that illegal and abusive treatment of migrant workers is a major reputational risk for global corporations. Most companies don’t understand the extent of this risk because the problem is deep within the supply chain, and they don’t see it. Another report, from an international trade union confederation, estimates that “hidden” undocumented workers constitute 94 percent of the total number of workers indirectly employed by the world’s 50 largest companies.
