Why Compliance Professionals Should Continue Their Educational Development
December 22, 2023
Compliance professionals should be developing and educating themselves on hard and soft skills to achieve greater success in their careers. Professionals, especially mentors and leaders, should be continuously aware of changes in domestic law and international relations to react appropriately and accordingly.
Some areas to focus on to improve and educate oneself, according to an All Things Compliance article, include:
- Communication – Using professional vocabulary to speak the language of stakeholders, CFOs and CISOs is important for working with them.
- Collaboration – Knowing how to effectively collaborate with peers in a corporate context is crucial.
- Building relationships – Creating lasting relationships with coworkers and collaborators builds up a support system throughout a career.
- Thought leadership – Engaging in thought leadership by writing blogs and reading others’ professional opinions can expand knowledge and perspective on the compliance field.
Continuous education leads to more informed decisions and professional success. This self-improvement through learning can be done through online courses both within and outside the compliance field. They can be found on websites such as Coursera, LinkedIn, and Harvard Business School.
