White House Targeting Patent Trolls

The non-practicing entities, the President said,  “essentially leverage and hijack somebody else’s idea and see if they can extort some money out of them.” The administration is targeting NPEs with a barrage of executive actions and legislative proposals, including one that would permit more discretion in awarding fees to the prevailing party in an infringement suit. Another would require “any party sending demand letters, filing an infringement suit or seeking PTO review of a patent to file updated ownership information.”
