White House Releases Corporate Cybersecurity Framework

Businesses that are involved in critical national infrastructure will be encouraged to beef up cybersecurity efforts under a framework released by the White House today. President Obama’s executive order lays out a voluntary guidebook that establishes standards for steps they can take toward preventing and responding to the growing threat of cyber attacks. The guide was developed by the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology. The administration’s final framework is similar to a draft released in October, but the Feb. 12 version contains a section on privacy and civil liberties concerns, previously buried in an appendix.
