“White-Hat” Hackers Can Beef Up Company Security

So called white-hat hackers can be a powerful tool to expose system vulnerabilities. The process of utilizing them has become formalized and is now part of normal business operations for numerous organizations. Among them is the Pentagon, with its “Hack the Pentagon” bounty program, which has been coordinated by a company called HackerOne. An official from HackerOne explains how “ethical hacking” works, what makes these hackers tick, and why a company that uses them needs to establish a vulnerability disclosure policy to provide guidelines that, among other things, will protect the white-hats from an “antiquated” federal law.
