Washington AG Looks To Boost Cybersecurity In 2015

Noting that identity thieves are using increasingly sophisticated methods to hack consumer databases and steal financial information, Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson has introduced legislation that will eliminate the blanket exemption for encrypted data, and require that consumer be notified within 30 days if a situation develops in which their personal data is likely to be compromised. The proposed law enables the Attorney General to compile centralized information about data breaches for law enforcement and consumers.
