University President’s Quick Action After Racist Incident May Bring Legal Challenge

After video emerged of a fraternity joining in a racist chant, University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren immediately denounced that act and then expelled two students. Many cheered the move as a welcome departure from the typically slow-paced response of academia, but The Chronicle of Higher Education explores whether Boren’s decisiveness could expose OU to due process challenges from the expelled students.and notes that in other cases where action was taken against arguably similar racist behavior, challenges were upheld.
