Unions Losing Ground In Many U.S. States

Unions have lost members in 43 states, and the share of jobs represented by unions has fallen in 41 states, according to Labor Department data released last week. New figures showed the percentage of wage and salary workers were union members was the same in 2013 as it was in the prior year – 11.3 percent – but that number is much less than the 20 percent represented by labor groups 30 years ago. The Washington Post gathered historical and current data to create a comparison on how unions are faring in individual states.
