U.S. Regulators Fine Airbag Company For Non-Cooperation

Federal regulators are fining Takata, the Japanese airbag manufacturer, $14,000 a day for failing to respond “fully or truthfully” to demands that it turn over documents and information related to defective airbags. More than 18 million vehicles in the U.S. have been recalled for having faulty airbags thatcan explode and spray metal fragments. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration claims that, while Takata has turned over 2.4 million documents, it has not helped the agency to understand them. Takata refutes the claims, and says it is in regular communication with the agency.
