Trump Transition Daunted By Lingering Lawsuits

As President-Elect Donald Trump begins to ramp up transition efforts, courts across the country are still grappling with about 75 still-open lawsuits against the real estate magnate and his businesses. The largest and most concerning suits for Trump involve his now-defunct real estate school, Trump University, which former students have accused of being a sham. There are three suits open against Trump U, which involve allegations of fraud and racketeering. The other lawsuits include a $4 million claim brought by a Republican political consultant who said Trump defamed her; a class-action claiming his presidential campaign broke consumer protection laws by sending unsolicited text messages; and a former golf club employee who claims she was fired after complaining about sexual harassment at work. But the racketeering charge carries the largest potential threat. Should the ruling come out in favor of the former students, it would be an impeachable offense. Trump threatened to file several lawsuits of his own from the campaign trail, against journalists and several women who accused him of sexually assaulting them.
