Tough Union Organizer Protection Bill Introduced In Congress

Said to have 35 co-sponsors, the bill was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Patty Murray (Wash.) and Rep. Bobby Scott (Va.).  According to Murray there currently “is no downside for employers to fire workers who join together to exercise their basic rights and advocate for improvements in the workplace.” The Hill, in its report on the initiative, notes that per a recent Gallop poll, public support for unions is at its highest point in years, at 58 percent. The Murray-Scott bill would empower the NLRB to impose strict penalties and order triple back pay for workers whose rights were judged to have been violated, regardless of their immigration status.
