Tough Equal Pay Law Signed In CA

California Senate Bill 358 says that employers have the burden of showing that differences in pay for similar jobs are the product of “a bona fide factor other than sex,” like education, training and experience. Scott Witlin, partner with Los Angeles-based Barnes & Thornburg, said the new law could become a legal Pandora’s Box due to the phrase, “substantially similar work.”
