Top Alabama Officials Face Impeachment, Prison

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore has been suspended over his attempts to block gay marriage, Governor Robert Bentley faces impeachment over a sex scandal involving a top political aide, and GOP House Speaker Mike Hubbard awaits a state trial on 23 felony ethics charges that could result in his removal. If convicted Hubbard will probably join former Governor Don Siegelman in prison. Moore’s suspension is his second. He was re-elected after the first, over a flap about displaying The Ten Commandments. “It’s definitely a traumatic time,” said Bill Stewart, a retired political scientist from the University of Alabama.
