The Holiday Party “In-Recovery” Challenge

In a post that provides tips for the sobriety-inclined in the face of law firm holiday parties, the host of “The Addicted Lawyer” blog relays two first person accounts that take very different approaches. The first contains advice on the variations and subtleties of saying, basically, “no thanks.” It also includes some sage advice to those involved in planning the parties. Make sure there is equal access to non-alcoholic drinks, including things like punch and eggnog. The second, written by a former law firm associate and drinker, now turned counselor, is more draconian. For those who have been in recovery less than three years, he strongly recommends taking a rain check entirely, perhaps saying you have family obligations.
