The Evolving Strains Of Ransomware

An insidious new strain of ransomware is said to be infecting 100,000 computers per day. A post from Jai Vijayan on the DarkReading blog looks at the current state of the art, and in particular at a new strain called “Locky.” In fact it’s a bit alarming how fast “the current state” keeps changing, and how difficult it is for antivirus programs to keep up with it. It appears that serious hackers monitor the antivirus software as diligently as the antivirus companies monitor the hackers. When it comes to countering ransomware, though, there are a few basics that experts agree on.
